Book ReviewL The Big Event by Anne John-Ligali

The Big Event by Anne John-Ligali
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟(4 stars)

I was in the mood for a frothy British chick-lit book so this is one I've recently grabbed. This felt more like the opening chapter to the real story in this duology. I thought it was cute, insightful and it made me want to read what happens next.

I loved the situation of a group of online friends meeting up at a Christmas party and realizing the disappointment when the real-life person doesn't quite sync with their online persona. It was a good lens through which to see and think about friendship in the modern age and also served as a good mirror. This really should be tacked on to the next one (which I'm reading now) as a prologue as it continues the story with the same characters after the party.

Summary: You are cordially invited to the party of the season where you'll meet Constance and friends in action.
Constance Jeffries is excited when she gets the chance to meet up with virtual friends at a get-together in a London hotel. She’s been tweeting and messaging her lovely friends for years and feels they must be just as excited to finally meet her in person too. Or so she hopes.

The Big Event is first part in a short story series about the importance of ‘real’ friendships and how it’s the little things that matter the most.
